Early morning rain heard inside of a car in a busy parking lot. Sounds of people walking past, car doors opening and closing, cars pulling in and out, distant traffic on the surrounding roads going by including cars, trucks and busses. Occasional honks. Occasional audible talk-radio in a car parked near by.

The source of the sound originates in an apartment. I recorded the creaking noise of the front door with a zoom h4n. I didn't change effect as i wanted it to be used naturally as background noise and give special atmosphere, like in alfred hitchcock movies. I remarked this was a very clear, resourceful sound when going out from home: i heard it and suddenly thought that would be a good sound for the freesounders's community.

Not just any thunder this! this is the spanish variety and anyone who has been around a spanish thunderstorm will know what i mean. This field recording was made from my villa and this is both rural and situated between two mountain ranges. So, you've got the thunder, the acoustics, the sound of the rain and the birds in the nearby trees. If you listen closely enough then you might hear the sound of the breeze through the palm trees. Recorded with twin directional mike pointing away from each other. . . For just about the best stereo separation you're going to get!.

As special appearance, there is someone having a joyful time (or -less probable- screaming of pain repeatedly) throughout the whole lenght of the recording. Well, i wanted to do add a sound to my recording of a chicken in a barn. I put the mic (zoom h2 - 4ch-around) outside on the ground and threw some corn around it, so that the chickens will walk around it and hopefully make some noise. The chickens are very chilled, so there are just clucking smoothly and you can hear them walking around. Further there some flies flying close to the mic, some birds and stuff. . . :-).

This was a happy accient. I was charging a drone battery though an adapter with overvoltage protection, which started beeping and increasing in frequency as the battery got close to full charge. This is a recording of an escalator at the main bus station in helsinki, finland. I heard it making this sound one day. It was quite loud in the space and i heard if from far away. It sounded like a street performer playing an odd instrument. I imagined that a drummer would have had fun jamming along with this. I missed the opportunity to record it that week, but luckily the thing wasn't fixed the next week when i was again at the same place. This was recorded with iphone xr, so it's not super quality (i actually took a video really close to the escalator, hoping the video recording gives the best sound), but maybe somebody finds some use for this (the sound can likely be well isolated). This is as unprocessed as it can be, straight from the original video.

This rig helps me get those things too ephemeral to capture with a stereo pair; sounds i would regret not having at all. I keep it on my belt 90% of the time. Just in case.

I've encountered fantasicly squeaky screws when putting together an mdf cabinet. The screws were driven with a scredriver into pre-puchend holes in an mdf panel. Recorded with zoom h1 at 96khz / 24-bit. Converted to flac using sox. No processing or editing was performed for maximum flexibility nad retaiging highest quality. Also out of laziness. Enjoy!.

This is a stereo recording of an exterior glass and metal door on a university campus in new jersey, usa. There are several articulations of the door here that lend themselves to creature and robot noises. There is a whimper and a sigh and a screech as well as some ticking and clicking. This reminded me very much of baby godzilla type noises. I've put these into iris 2 and had a good time making synth patches with them. Stereo recording at 48khz 24bit on a tascam d-40x using the internal microphones.

We were doing a shoot for a chinese television station and i let my canon 7d pic up some sounds, edited some of the pops out and there you have it. Some bees in a meadow with some churping birds near commercial hives in the late spring. Good for ambient background sound with bees everpresent. In the fraser valley, british columbia.

Recording of my own fireplace made with a tascam dr-40 (internal mics). I blasted up the lower freqs, kept the mid-range close to 0, then from 5-16 khz went back way up, slowly tapering down to below zero for the highest frequencies. All editing done in audacity, compressed using soundkonverter in linux. This is a good sound effect for either a bonfire or a house burning down, which is what i made it for.

Some sounds of blowing across the top of a glass bottle. Specifically a 33cl cider bottle. :-). Captured using a rode nt5 small-diaphragm condenser microphone and a zoom h5 recorder. Basic editing in ocenaudio, also applied some slight de-reverberation. I intend to record a proper version later on, including different articulations at various pitches. But that may take a while. As our planet becomes increasingly crowded, finding a quiet, natural, tranquil place to listen to pure nature becomes harder. Even in the rural area of deep southern illinois you have to really try hard to find a place where the man-made sounds aren’t everywhere. However, i found just such a place on september 9th, 2012 at the cache river state natural area. This very peaceful recording was made at around 3:00pm in a grassy field bordering a small pond. The pure, droning sound of the insects of late summer make this soundscape almost hypnotic. If you listen closely towards the middle and end of this recording, you can hear the pleasant chipping of sparrows and the not so pleasant call of a crow off in the distance. Recording made with the handy/zoom h4n recorder, using the internal built-in stereo microphones. I mounted my recorder on a small tripod literally 3 inches from the ground so my recorder was actually hidden in the grasses and goldenrods of late summer.

I stood on the platform at the montrose l station with a sony minidisc and recorded the entire process of a nyc subway train coming and going. Low noise, though you may wish to use a high-pass filter as there is so much bass in the material.

Here is some more of that young couple next door that always go at it. This one was badly recorded. It's probably the best i could do with the editing. Passed 1:00 is when they begin. 7:29 is when they finish. Passed 3:30 is when the woman starts to make louder sounds. 5:34 to 6:03, an airplane flying got into the recording, did my best to make unnoticeable. 7:05 to 7:25 are the sounds from the guy. Original audio of this was 15:00 long. They didn't actually start having sex right away. This was edit and cut short with audacity.

24/48 recording of a section of ranch area in patagonia arizona. There is a light consistent breeze blowing through trees and rustling leaves on the ground. There is a small stream flowing over rocks nearby. There is no animal or human sound.

My first upload to freesound is a thunderstorm recorded in gateshead, uk, next to our open bathroom window. Some lovely thunderclaps and rain. Recorded on a zoom h5. There are also some household sounds swimming around in the background, doors closing, dishes clinking etc; i think you can hear the radio or something very faintly towards the end -- but there's plenty of clean usable thunder and rain in there. Incidentally i often use this type of thing in my long-form instrumental music, produced under the name conelrad. Me squeezing a crumpled bag of doritos, recorded with an sm57 going into an m-audio mobilepre usb audio interface. I recorded this because i needed a good rubber stretching sound, but couldn't find one that looped well. When i crumpled the bag up to throw it away, i realized it kind of sounds like what i wanted, and with some eqing and clever layering i could get a sound that's pretty close to what i wanted. I've uploaded the final result under my "processed sounds" pack, but here are the raw sounds for you to use, completely unprocessed. I've left some silence/noise at the beginning/end of these so that you can easily remove the noise if you so choose.

I recorded this in my living room with mics in an x-pattern on the couch very close together, using a tascam dr-70d and behringer dyynamic microphones with patch cables for optimal volume. I recorded this at maximum gain on the tascam as two stereo files, then conjoined them to a 6-channel audio file properly and mixed the front two channels to a monaural center channel for added effect. The final result is what can be downloaded here. Tghe music in the background is part of the star trek: generations expanded complete score, and is coming from my computer to the rear of the recording, which lasts just over a minute in length, and the music was just background noise for testing purposes only.
